In the Works

The Newport News Public Art Foundation has more than a dozen projects completed and another dozen in various planning stages.

Projects that are becoming realities in the next 12 months include:

Time - This is what this massive steel work looks like in the New York studio of British-American sculptor Lee Tribe. In 2013, it will move to a new location in one of the large medians along Warwick Boulevard  south of Oyster Point Road.

Handshake - In 2012, sculptor Gunther Stilling will begin casting, welding and finishing this sculpture of two hands. When he has completed that work, it will travel from Pietrasanta, Italy, to Newport News, where it will be installed in the traffic circle in Oyster Point in Spring 2013. This project is made possible by the support of generous businesses and individuals in the Peninsula's central business district.

Francesco - This sculpture by Emanuele De Reggi is in storage, waiting for the new chapel at Christopher Newport University to be built. When the chapel is completed in 2013, Francesco will be moved outside to take up his place on the grounds.
